Particles and Waves

Particles and Runes

Particles and Waves Experiments: In this work my investigation took an alternate path, I replaced ink and paper with water and light. I video taped two sources of sounds played through a high-power speaker system. First, the recorded sounds of the storm and then sounds from a waveform generator. VIDEO link

The varying intensities of the sounds sources left markedly different traces of reflected light on water. I find it curious that the visualized sounds from each exploration correspond with their source. In Particles and Waves (left), the dynamic randomness in storm video are similar to the uncontrollable activity of a Hurricane. And in Waveforms (right), the morphing characters produced by the tonal sounds of a waveform generator are reminiscent of an unknown language.

Particle and Waves Installation: The projected video of scattering light moved across multiple layers of scrim that extended across a room lined with black fabric. The large-scale installation could be viewed from multiple vantage points. VIDEO link
